Region Overview
Tohoku covers six prefectures across northern Honshu, anchored by Sendai as its largest city and gateway. Despite excellent shinkansen access from Tokyo, it remains far less visited internationally than Kanto or Kansai — which is exactly its appeal for clients who want to feel like they've gone somewhere genuinely different.
The region's signature draws are seasonal: Aomori's Nebuta Matsuri lantern festival each August, cherry blossoms at Hirosaki Castle in spring, autumn foliage widely regarded among the best in Japan, and the frost-covered "snow monster" trees at Zao in winter.
