Shikoku is best known for the 88 Temple Pilgrimage (Ohenro), a centuries-old Buddhist walking route circling the island, and Dogo Onsen in Matsuyama, widely cited as one of Japan's oldest hot springs.
Naoshima and the wider Seto Inland Sea art islands are technically part of Kagawa Prefecture, in Shikoku, and draw a design- and art-focused traveller distinct from the temple circuit.
